About Us

Lighthouse Bistro has been serving the North Shore of Kauai great food and live entertainment, in an open air Hawaiian plantation garden setting; since 1999. We pride ourselves on using fresh local produce and ingredients to create a unique European, pacific rim, fusion menu. Owner Matt Ernsdorf, started Lighthouse Bistro in 1999. He started his restaurant career as a bus person 20 years ago in the same building, (formally Casa di Amici) and has worked his way through all the restaurant positions. Chef Joseph Caulfield, graduate of the Culinary Institute of America has been the chef at Lighthouse Bistro since 2002.  With experience, passion, hard work and a love for food, we are confidant you will enjoy your visit to the lighthouse Bistro.

Frommer's Review

Even if you're not on your way to the legendary Kilauea Lighthouse, this bistro is so good it's worth a special trip. The charming green-and-white wooden building next to Kong Lung Store has open sides, old-fashioned plantation architecture, open-air seating, trellises, and high ceilings. The ambience is wonderful, with a retro feeling. The food is excellent, an eclectic selection that highlights local ingredients in everything from fresh fish tacos and fresh fish burgers to macadamia nut?crusted ahi and four preparations of fresh catch. The mango-cherry chicken in light lilikoi sauce is a tropical delight. The ahi quesadilla comes beautifully presented with rice, black beans, and spicy condiments on a plate painted with purple cabbage shavings and herbs -- much more elegant than the usual lunchtime fare.

Gayot.com Review

Charming digs in the historic Kong Lung Center and a decided absence of competition give this otherwise fairly average restaurant an edge. It's the only place for dinner between Kapaa and Princeville. Don't get misled by the name; it's miles from the sea and the Kilauea Lighthouse, which is down the road a piece. And it's more like a garden restaurant than a bistro. That said, the eclectic menu features fresh fish specials that are among the best choices, served either broiled, blackened or, our favorite, ginger-crusted. Rib-eye steak, rack of lamb, Parmesan shrimp and several chicken, pork and pasta dishes offer plenty of variety and feature local produce. The wine list is excellent, and the full bar and live entertainment adds to the festivities. Lunch is rather lackluster, but if you're hungry it'll do. The open, plantation-style building with its high ceilings and broad windows creates the effect of eating outdoors, which is nice in the summer and less than ideal in cooler weather. Candlelight and lots of plants add to the romantic ambience.

Lighthouse Bistro. Excellent cuisine, coupled with a textural decor that complements its pastoral locale, recommends this terrific bistro. The cuisine benefits from a range of influences, as evidenced in fresh fish tacos, chicken satay, and veal piccata. The capable kitchen also delivers light pastas, salads, hamburgers, and perfectly cooked steaks, many dressed with complementary sauces. Beautiful presentation, live music, attentive service, and a calm, relaxing atmosphere also call to patrons eager for a quiet, delicious evening out.
